johnny g. mullen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and lives and works in New York. He attended Chelsea School of Art, London, and Central Saint Martins, London.
Mullen creates works that engage with the history of abstract painting and the painting process, producing active fields in which the expression of feelings and ideas are given intensity by the use of distinctive elements and rhythms. Utilizing primary forms and shapes, his works force a focus on painting’s basic elements and their relationships to structure, language, and meaning.
Mullen’s work is represented in several private and public collections and has been exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in New York and in Europe. His work has been written on in The New York Times, Flash Art magazine, The New Yorker, The Observer, Time Out New York and others.
